Happy Halloween everyone! Ok now onto the great American food holiday… Thanksgiving!! Lol, as you can probably guess we host it here. I mean go figure I would host a holiday that revolves around cooking. Well every yearI like to play around and try different recipes that includes new turkey recipes. This time around I am making a Garlic Herb Roasted Turkey. This is an AMAZING flavored turkey that is really cool and just a little bit different then just your basic turkey. If you ever want to try something new but are afraid to stray this is the perfect recipe for jumping into those water. Ingredients
- 12 lb. Turkey
- 1 Stick Butter, Softened
- 1/4 Olive Oil
- 1 Tbsp. Basil
- 1 Tbsp. Rosemary
- 1 Tbsp. Parsley
- 1 Onion, Sliced
- 1 Head of Garlic
- 1 Lemon
- Salt
- Pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- In a medium sized bowl, stir together softened butter, olive oil, herbs, and lemon zest.
- Rinse the turkey under cold water and make sure to remove any gravy packets and the giblets. Place the turkey on a roasting pan and pat dry with paper towels.
- Grab a hunk of the butter mixture and rub it all over the turkey, over the wings and breast, underneath, and in the cavity.
- Sprinkle the salt and pepper evenly all over the bird and inside the cavity.
- Halve the garlic crosswise so the centers are exposed then stuff it in the cavity along with the onion, and halved lemon.
- Bake the turkey at 450 for 30 minutes then turn the heat down to 350, tent with foil, and continue to cook for 1½-2 hours. Take the bird out after 1½ hours and insert a thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh. - Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes of baking, unless it's getting too browned.
