Nana’s Marinara Sauce

I was going through some of my Mother’s boxes and I ran across an envelope full of my Nana’s (I am half Sicilian FYI) old school recipes. I thought this was really cool as I had recently discovered my love for cooking. So I jumped right on it and made a few of them OMG they came out great. So here you go here is one of here awesome recipes… My Nana’s Marinara Sauce!

Nana's Marinara (Pasta) Sauce Recipe

Ingredients
  1. 1/2 Cup Olive Oil
  2. 2 Cups Finely Chopped Onions
  3. 2 Cups Water
  4. 2 Gloves of Garlic Crushed
  5. 2 Cans (1 lbs.) Tomato Puree
  6. 2 lbs. Italian Plum Tomatoes Chunked to your preference
  7. 1/4 Cup Chopped Parsley
  8. 2 Tbsp. Sugar
  9. 1 1/2 Tbsp. Salt
  10. 3 tsp. Oregano
  11. 2 tsp. Basil
  12. 1/2 tsp. Pepper
  13. 1 tsp. Fennel Seed
Instructions
  1. Heat Olive Oil in large pot, sauté the onions and garlic until nice and tender, about 5 minutes
  2. Stir in remaining sauce ingredients. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for 1 - 2 hours (until you get the desired thickness, I like mine very thick so I let it go about an hour and 45 minutes).
Notes
  1. It's a SUPER easy recipes that tastes so freakin' good! Nana really knew how to cook. I can't wait to bust out a few more of he recipes and try them!
